Land Programs & Hotels

  • Embark on a captivating five-day adventure through the heart of Spain, where history and culture await at every turn. From the lively boulevards of Madrid to the storybook streets of Toledo and the dramatic landscapes leading to Barcelona, this journey promises unforgettable experiences. Discover UNESCO World Heritage sites, savor regional delicacies, and witness iconic art and exhilarating flamenco—all while exploring timeless cities renowned for their charm and heritage. Get ready to uncover the medieval treasures of Spain on an extraordinary pre-cruise land program that blends discovery, luxury, and authentic local flavor.

    NOTES:

•This program begins in Madrid therefore arriving flights need to be booked into the Madrid International Airport.

•This tour is not available to guests with walking difficulties or for those who use a wheelchair, walker or scooter due to the amount of walking, many steps and cobbled surfaces. There are also long segments of driving on this program.

    DAY 1

Upon arriving at the Madrid International Airport, you will be met in the arrivals Hall which is outside the luggage claim area. Please look for someone holding a sign with the cruise line logo.

You will then be transferred to a centrally located hotel where you will spend the evening. Meals are on your own today.

Note: Single guests will transfer in a sedan and couples in a van. Sedans hold 2 pieces of luggage plus 2 carryon size bags. Vans hold 4 pieces of luggage plus 2 -3 carry-on sized bags. Should you have more luggage than is permissible, a larger vehicle may be required with additional cost. Please advise your booking agent to be at least 21 days before sailing if a larger vehicle is required.

    Day 2

After breakfast at your hotel, begin a half-day morning tour of Madrid, a vibrant city whose mix of elegant boulevards, historic squares and outstanding museums makes it one of Europe’s great cultural capitals.

Start the day with a panoramic drive, passing some of the city’s most emblematic sites, such as the Paseo de la Castellana, Plaza de Cibeles, the Puerta de Alcalá and El Retiro Park. This introduction will allow you to appreciate Madrid’s majestic and diverse architecture.

A short and guided walking tour through Plaza Mayor will show you the historic heart of Madrid. Its arcades, façades and lively atmosphere reveal centuries of history and traditions, offering an authentic experience in one of the city’s most iconic spots.

The morning continues with a visit to the Prado Museum, one of the most important art museums in the world and a crucial part of the "Paseo del Prado and Retiro Park, landscape of arts and sciences", declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2021 as "Landscape of Light", due to its historical, artistic and natural value, being an urban area that combines art , science and nature.

Lunch is on your own today, with plenty of options to choose from in central Madrid, ranging from traditional taverns to contemporary restaurants.

The afternoon is free for you to explore the city at your own pace: visit additional museums, stroll through the Literary Quarter, relax on a terrace, or simply enjoy Madrid’s unique atmosphere. If you prefer, the city also offers excellent shopping opportunities—from exclusive boutiques and international brands along the Golden Mile to traditional shops and unique stores in the historic center.

    Day 3

Following breakfast at your hotel, depart for Toledo, a city so architecturally rich that Spain has declared it a national monument. UNESCO agreed and designated the historic center a World Heritage site, in part because three religions existed harmoniously here—Christianity, Islam and Judaism.

As you walk through this extraordinary city on the Tagus River, you will get a genuine feel for what life was like here in the Middle Ages. The historic city center is that atmospheric. The Toledo Cathedral is particularly impressive, as it is considered one of Europe’s greatest Gothic buildings.

Built over nearly three centuries, starting in 1226, the cathedral contains a spectacular high altar and two paintings by El Greco, the famed painter that lived in Toledo.

Your exploration continues with lunch at La Hacienda del Cardenal, a charming historic residence surrounded by gardens and medieval walls, where you will enjoy regional cuisine in a unique and atmospheric setting.

After lunch, you will return to Madrid for a memorable evening at the renowned Teatro Flamenco. From a privileged seating area, you will witness an extraordinary flamenco performance, complete with a welcome drink and the opportunity to meet the celebrated dancers after the show.

Following this unforgettable cultural experience, you will return to the hotel. Dinner is on your own, giving you the choice to dine at the hotel or explore the many options in the surrounding area.

    DAY 4

After breakfast at the hotel, check out and meet your local guide for a two-hour drive to the ancient town of Siguenza, considered one of the best kept villages in Spain. Enjoy the changing landscape along the way.

Located in a strategical location and overlooking a fertile area, the town has been inhabited since the paleolithic time, and conserves evident traces of ancient settlers such as Romans, Visigots and Arabs just to name a few.

Follow your guide on a stroll through its medieval streets, admire the central square “Plaza Mayor “and the façades of many elegant palace houses, churches and convents that reflect the ancient important of Siguenza.

After lunch in a typical restaurant, continue to Zaragoza (2-hour drive). Its star attraction is the multi-domed Basilica of Pilar, an important pilgrimage site. According to local legend, it was here that the Virgin Mary gave Saint James a pillar made of jasper and instructed him to build a church on the site. This last version of El Pilar, as it’s known locally, was constructed beginning in the late 17th century.

Upon arrival, enjoy a panoramic tour of the old quarter. See the famous Basilica of Pilar: overlooking the Ebro River, it is a famous pilgrimage site with a shrine to the Virgin Mary and multiple domes.

After visiting, check in to your hotel, where you will spend the evening with dinner on your own.

    DAY 5

Enjoy breakfast and check out before departing from Zaragoza for a scenic drive through the beautiful landscapes of Aragon and Catalonia regions. Upon arrival at the medieval town of Montblanc, explore its well-kept pedestrian town centre, dotted with Gothic churches, ancient palaces, and surrounded by 14th-century stone walls, more than half of which are still standing.

Lunch will be served at the charming restaurant Moli del Mallol, where you can enjoy traditional local cuisine.

After lunch, continue to the Port of Barcelona where you will embark the ship and begin the next leg of your journey.

    DAY 1

Upon arriving at the El Prat International Airport in Barcelona, you will be met in the Arrivals Hall which is outside the luggage claim area. Please look for our local representative holding a sign with the cruise line logo.

Transfer by private vehicle to the Nobu Hotel Barcelona or a similar hotel, where you will spend the evening. Meals will be on your own today.

Check in is at 3:00pm. Your hotel is located in the Eixample district of Barcelona, just a 10-minute walk to Las Ramblas. Passeig de Gràcia, the city’s nicest shopping street, is easily reached on foot. Emblematic buildings and sights such as Casa Batlló, Casa Milà (La Pedrera), La Sagrada Familia and the Picasso Museum are also nearby if you wish to visit them.

Note: A private van or SUV will be used to transfer couples or parties of two while solo travelers will transfer by private sedan. Vans hold a maximum of four pieces or large luggage and two carry on pieces per person and sedans hold a maximum of two large suitcases and a carry-on. Transfers are with driver only.

    DAY 2

After breakfast at your hotel, meet your guide and begin touring the city. You will pass the Columbus monument and the waterfront on the way to Sagrada Familia, the extraordinary still-unfinished church that famed architect Antoni Gaudí worked on until his death in 1926. The guide will explain the history of the church and its lengthy ongoing construction during your outside visit.

Continuing on, you will begin walking through the Gothic Quarter, passing landmarks such as the La Seu Cathedral and city hall. A more sweeping view of Barcelona awaits you upon reaching Mount Juic hill, where you may pause for photos. You will then visit Spanish Village, an open-air museum with replicas of characteristic houses from several regions of Spain. As you meander the grounds, you may observe artists such as glassblowers demonstrating their talents.

A lunch including local specialties follows, after which you will return to your hotel. The remainder of the day will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

    DAY 3

After breakfast at your hotel, you will settle in for a direct transfer to Girona, accompanied by a guide. Northern Catalonia’s largest city, Girona is full of museums, galleries and Gothic churches, strung around a tangle of cobbled lanes and medieval walls. Reflections of modernist mansions shimmer in the river that divides the historic center from the commercial center.

During a comprehensive walking tour of the city center, you will enjoy an inside visit of the 12th-century Arab baths and see the remains of Girona’s historical Jewish community.

During free time that follows, you might savor lunch on your own before transferring back to Barcelona, where the remainder of the evening will be at your leisure with dinner on your own.

    Day 4

Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will travel to Colonia Güell, another one of Gaudí’s unfinished works. Like La Sagrada Familia, this church is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Businessman Eusebio Güell commissioned Gaudí to build it for his textile factory workers in the village of Santa Coloma de Cervelló. The church is particularly noteworthy because the famed architect introduced advanced technology on it that he finetuned in later projects.

In time, you will travel to Cavas Freixenet in the heart of the Penedès region, a region well-known in Roman times for producing quality wines. There, you will tour the cellars, learn about the production of its sparkling cava wine, and enjoy a lunch of local specialties.

Afterwards, you will return to Barcelona for embarkation.

This is particularly evident in the central Salone Delle Feste which has seen regal dances, Papal visits, important diplomatic dinners, and the staging of films, including some famous ones. In each corner of the hotel are paintings and objets d'art by the Grand Masters of the past.

  • Marvel at the true icons of Rome, including the Vatican Museums, Saint Peter’s Basilica, the Colosseum and the gardens of the Pope’s summer residence, often enjoying private access to areas off-limits to the general public.

    Notes:

•This tour is not recommended for guests with walking difficulties or those who utilize a wheelchair or scooter due to the amount of walking, steps, cobbled surfaces and lack of elevators at some sites.

•The below represents a sample itinerary. Should sites be closed on a particular day, your itinerary will be amended accordingly so that all sites are seen. Final cruise documents received 21 days before sailing will include the most up to date itinerary for your particular voyage.

•If you have any food intolerances or special dietary needs, please contact the Regent Reservations Team at least 100 days prior to your departure. It is important that your land program extension reflects these details so our local vendors can ensure smooth and enjoyable dining experiences.

•Please advise RSSC no later than 100 days before departure if you are travelling with other guests on this program. This is to ensure that you are placed in the same Vatican entrance group. Once the Vatican tickets are purchased, changes cannot be made. Guests will also be required to show identification when entering the Vatican. Travel with information must be noted in your land program extension. Vatican groups are limited to 10 guests per group and our groups may not all go on the same day.

•Therefore, the below represents a sample itinerary and sites seen may be moved around to accommodate the Vatican entry times that our groups receive.

•Also, should a site be closed on a particular day, your itinerary will be amended accordingly so that all sites are seen. Final cruise documents received 21 days before sailing will include the most up to date itinerary for your particular voyage.

    Day 1

Disembark the ship in Civitavecchia and meet our local representatives who will assist you to your transfer vehicle. Drive to the Sofitel Roma Villa Borghese, a 5-star property with a privileged location, only a short walk from the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps and the Pantheon.

Check in is at 3:00pm, and the rest of the day is yours to settle in at your leisure. Guests are welcome to store luggage with the Bell Captain until the rooms are ready.

Meals are on your own today.

    Day 2

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will tour the Vatican Museums and Saint Peter’s Basilica. The museums contain some of the world’s greatest paintings and sculptures, including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael and Caravaggio. Besides seeing the most well-known exhibits like the Sistine Chapel, you will also visit areas usually closed to the general public, including the tomb of Pope Pius XII and the Niccoline Chapel, which features the lives of St. Lawrence and St. Stephen.

Note: When the Niccoline Chapel is not available, we will substitute with a visit to the “private room of the tears and the room of Pope’s vestments.

After the visit you will return back to your hotel. Lunch is on your own.

In the afternoon, meet the group in the lobby and leave the hotel to enjoy a beautiful panoramic drive of Ancient Rome. Pass by the Colosseum, the Caracalla’s Baths and the Circus Maximus. Then, you will reach Trevi Fountain, theatrically designed by Nicola Salvi; be sure you throw your coin to ensure your return to Roma.

Next, you will walk to the Piazza Navona, a lovely square constructed in the 15th century and lined with cafes and Baroque palaces. Under the Navona’ Square lies the magnificent Stadium of Domitian. The Stadium was commissioned around 80 AD by the Emperor Titus Flavius Domitianus as a gift to the people of Rome and was used mostly for athletic contests. After the visit you will enjoy a cocktail in this amazing location.

Afterwards, you will return to your hotel. Dinner is on your own.

Note: Scooters are not permitted in the Vatican Museums and guests with wheelchairs are not permitted to tour with the group. Guests requiring a wheelchair will need to use a Museum wheelchair and have a separate guide at an additional cost of approximately 150 Euro payable on site (subject to change). At Domitian Stadium there are 20 steps with no elevator.

    Day 3

Following breakfast at the hotel, you will drive East from Rome toward Tivoli.

Tivoli is a small town on the lower slopes of the Apennines where the river Aniene plunges in cascades into the Roman plain. The villas testify to Tivoli’s importance as a holiday resort from the Roman period through the Renaissance. Tivoli or Tibur in antiquity came under Roman control in the 4th Century BC and it was there that a Sibyl prophesied the coming of Jesus Christ to the Emperor Augustus.

Visit Villa D’Este, masterpiece of the Italian Garden, and included in the UNESCO world heritage list. With its impressive concentration of fountains, nymphs, grottoes, plays of water, and music, it constitutes a much-copied model for European gardens in the mannerist and baroque styles.

After the visit, enjoy some free time to wonder through the colorful open-air market selling all sorts of souvenirs, fruits and local products, then enjoy lunch in a beautiful restaurant overlooking another one of Tivoli’s sights, the beautiful Villa Gregoriana. Drive back to the hotel.

In time, you will return to your hotel where the remainder of the day and dinner are on your own.

Note: Villa d'Este Gardens are not accessible for wheelchairs or scooters. Only the first floor will be accessible in the Villa. The restaurant in Tivoli has approximately 40 steps to enter without an elevator.

    Day 4

After breakfast and check out you will be transferred by private vehicle to the Leonardo da Vinci–Fiumicino Airport based on your flight departure time.

Note: Couples or pairs will be transferred by private van or SUV (max 4 large bags total plus 1 carry-on per person); solo guests will use a sedan (2 large suitcases plus a carry-on). Extra luggage may require a larger vehicle at additional cost—notify your RSSC booking agent at least 14 days before sailing with this information. Transfers include driver only.

Land Program Details Step by Step:

•Please note: The order of sites visited may vary to avoid congestion. All program timings are approximate, given here for general reference purposes and subject to change.

•Itineraries with the most up to date details (at the time) will be issued when you are emailed your final cruise documents 21 days prior to sailing. Final itineraries with the most up to date details will be provided by the Destination Services Team once you board the ship. Please review your final itinerary carefully for any amendments.

•The hotels used for your land program will be the hotels listed in this document unless you have been advised otherwise in advance of the land program start date.
