Benoa’s charms are most evident in Nusa Dua, one of the most beautiful beaches in already-legendary Bali. In this land of rice terraces, spectacular volcanoes and over 20.000 temples, the main destination is the stunning 17th-century royal temple complex of Pura Taman Ayun in nearby Mengwi, surrounded by a lotus-filled moat, giving it the feel of a garden sanctuary. Another favorite is the Sunset Temple, Tanah Lot, and don’t miss the batik factories for that perfect gift or souvenir.

OVERLAND - THE JOYS OF JAVA CODE: BEOL57
Experience the Javanese culture by visiting landmarks such as Borobudur temple and Yogyakarta Palace, exploring a traditional village, watching a Ramayana ballet and riding the train to Surabaya to see its spectacular highlights.
Hinweis: Due to the nature of this program it is not recommended for guests with mobility restrictions. Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.
DAY 1 – 10. Februar 2026
Disembark in Benoa, meet your guide and drive to the airport for a flight to Yogyakarta.
Upon arriving in Yogyakarta, you will transfer to the Sheraton Mustika Hotel Jogjakarta for check in, stopping for an Indonesian dinner along the way.
Hinweis: Eat a hearty lunch before departure.
DAY 2 – 11. Februar 2026
Following breakfast at the hotel, you will visit the courtyard of Borobudur, the largest Buddhist temple in Indonesia. The name Borobudur is believed to have been derived from Sanskrit, meaning the “Buddhist monastery on the hill.”
Built in three tiers during the 8th and 9th centuries, the temple was abandoned for centuries and lay hidden under layers of volcanic ash. It was rediscovered in the early 19th century by English military engineers, but it wasn’t until the 1970s that a massive restoration took place with the help of UNESCO.
After beholding the wonders of this archaeological site, you will dine at the Manohara Hotel in the temple complex.
You will then drive to Omah Kecebong, a traditional village that lends great insight into the Javanese lifestyle. To become even more immersed in the culture, you can change into a provided Javanese costume, if you wish. It makes for a great photo opportunity.
As you ride through Omah Kecebong in an open-air VW car that holds just three passengers, you will enjoy uninterrupted views of the village and the rice paddies that surround it.
Dinner will be served at the hotel later that evening.
DAY 3 – 12. Februar 2026
Following breakfast at the hotel, you will visit the Sultan Palace, also known as Yogyakarta Palace. Considered to be the cultural hub of Yogyakarta, the grand palace complex was constructed between two rivers to protect it against flooding. The setting of this royal palace is quite atmospheric and evokes images of life centuries ago.
Nearby, you will find Tamansari Water Castle, which occupies the site of the palace’s former gardens and the sultan’s hunting grounds. Built in the mid-18th century, its highlights include a bathing complex, pavilions and several lakes.
Lunch at the restaurant Sekar Kedhaton follows, after which you will visit Kota Gede, a suburb of Yogyakarta. Its maze of narrow streets is lined with shops, particularly those for batik textiles and silversmiths. While browsing, you will likely see the artisans making high-quality arts and crafts.
Upon returning to the hotel, you will have time to freshen up before dinner at the restaurant Rama Shinta Garden Resto, which is located in the shadow of the Prambanan Temple. As a special treat, you will watch a highly stylized Ramayana ballet show. Usually performed without dialogue, it tells the epic story of a prince who must rescue his kidnapped wife with the help of an army of monkeys.
DAY 4 – 13. Februar 2026
After an early-morning check out from the hotel, you will transfer to the Tugu train station for your escorted train ride to Surabaya. Along the way, you may dine on the breakfast box that the hotel provided.
Upon arriving in Surabaya, you will enjoy lunch at the Layar Seafood Restaurant.
During the introductory drive around the city, you will see highlights such as Chinatown, the Old Quarter, and the historical Jembatan Merah or Red Bridge, where the Battle of Surabaya begin in 1945. In time, you will stop in the Kampung Arab quarter to explore its bazaar-style market on your own.
Afterwards, you will check into the Hotel Majapahit Surabaya or a similar hotel for the evening. Dinner will be on your own.
Day 5 – 14. Februar 2026
After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will transfer to the Juanda Airport for a flight to Singapore. The guide will not accompany you on the flight but will assist with check in.
Once you land in Singapore and pass through Customs and Immigration, a representative will meet you for the transfer to the port, where you will re-board the cruise ship.

JAVA: A CULTURAL ODYSSEY CODE: BEOL59
Become thoroughly immersed in the cultures of Bali and East Java by visiting traditional villages, a Buddhist shrine, a tea plantation and the colonial city of Malang, all of which will lend great insight into daily life.
Hinweis: Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.
DAY 1 – 10. April 2025
After disembarking in Benoa, Bali, you will meet your guide and transfer to Subak Guliang, a traditional farming village in the island’s interior. The houses there are architecturally unique as they are based on the Asta Kosala Kosali tradition of house-building, a method somewhat similar to the ancient art of feng shui.
The houses are comprised of compounds in which areas for sleeping and cooking for instance are in separate structures rather than in separate rooms. All those structures are typically enclosed within a wall.
Your immersion into the culture will begin by helping prepare breakfast in the kitchen compound. The meal typically includes seasonal fruits, coffee, mineral water and Balinese cookies.
An enlightening walk through the village follows, during which you can meet and interact with the residents and see how families live and work together on a day-to-day basis. On one of the village farms, you will learn about the staple rice, from planting and harvesting through the best methods of cooking it. You will also gain an understanding of the simple but effective irrigation system Subak. Or you may just sit back and take it all in while enjoying fresh coconut water.
Lunch will be served right in the middle of the rice field with the soft background of traditional Rindik music played on bamboo instruments.
Afterwards, you will visit Penglipuran, a village that the indigenous Bali Aga people inhabit. The villagers still adhere to the strict traditions and time-honored ways that their ancestors followed centuries ago. The experience will provide a contrast to life in Subak Guliang.
Continuing on to the town of Ubud, you will check into your resort hotel for dinner and to spend the evening.
DAY 2 – 11. April 2025
After an early-morning breakfast, you will check out and transfer to Denpasar Airport for a domestic flight to Surabaya in East Java. Upon arrival at the Surabaya Airport, you will meet a local guide and drive to the Wonosari Tea Plantation, a vast and beautiful plantation on the slope of Mount Arjuna. There, you will witness tea leaf picking, tea making and other traditional daily activities.
You will then transfer to Sumberawan, a stupa – or a Buddhist shrine – that was discovered in a deteriorated state in 1904 and has since been partially renovated. It is the only true Buddhist stupa in East Java and is believed to date to the 13th-century Majapahit Sinhasari kingdom.
Surprisingly, the stupa doesn’t have a stairway to the small room at the top where the relics of the most important Buddhists would normally be kept. As no relics were found, it is believed that the stupa was built as a place of worship and meditation or possibly to honor a visit by the Majapahit king Hayam Wuruk in 1359. The stupa is mentioned in the epic Javanese poem Negarakertagama, which was written in the 14th century.
Continuing on to the city of Malang, you will begin sightseeing in a becak, a wheeled rickshaw that offers unobstructed views. Stops will be made along the way at the city’s largest Chinese temple and at the Pasar Bunga flower market. Riding down Malang’s central boulevard Alun Alun and through a seemingly endless maze of small alleys will also be memorable.
You will then check into your hotel in Malang for the evening.
DAY 3 – 12. April 2025
After breakfast, you will ride in a rickshaw (2 guests per rickshaw) to a traditional market and purchase fresh ingredients for your hands-on cooking class back at the hotel. You will learn to prepare a Javanese dish that will be chosen based on the seasonal ingredients available at the market.
After dining on your concoctions, you will transfer to the Surabaya port and re-embark the cruise ship.

OVERLAND - THE INSIDERS JAVA - 2024 CODE: BEOL34
Experience Java like an insider by exploring fascinating places that most visitors rarely see, including Mount Bromo at sunrise and a former slum that volunteers transformed into a vibrant community full of hope.
Hinweis: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.
TAG 1
After disembarking the ship in Benoa, you will transfer to the airport in Denpasar and fly to the city of Surabaya in Java. Upon landing at the Juanda International Airport, you will transfer to the Plataran Bromo hotel, stopping along the way for lunch.
You will have time to settle in and freshen up at the hotel before dinner and spending the evening.
Tucked away in the highlands of East Java, Plataran Bromo offers sublime views overlooking a patchwork of agricultural plantations woven into the surrounding hillsides. The hotel is conveniently located at the gateway of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
TAG 2
After waking up about 3am, you will travel by private 4WD jeep to the rim of Mount Penanjakan, which soars more than 9,000 feet above sea level. From there, you will watch the sunrise over the active volcano Mount Bromo. At 2.329 meters above sea level, Mount Bromo is one of the most iconic sights in Java, standing as the centerpiece of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. You can expect it to be a glorious experience as the surrounding countryside takes on an almost mystical appearance as the sunlight slowly illuminates it.
In the background, you will see Mount Semeru, another active volcano with the distinction of being the highest point in Java. Although its eruptions are small, they are almost constant. Chances are, you will see plumes of ash rising from the volcano and perhaps even the glow from lava flows inching down the mountainside.
After sunrise, you will descend the steep slopes of Mount Penanjakan, cross a plain known as the Sea of Sand and arrive at a verdant savannah. It is an idyllic setting, where you can sit on a picnic blanket and enjoy an al fresco breakfast. You will be surrounded by the magical landscape of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park.
Once you finish breakfast, you will drive back to Mount Bromo for a short walk of easy to medium difficulty that will take you to the base of the mountain. As an option at an additional cost, you might cross the Sea of Sand on horseback.
Upon returning to the hotel, you will check-out and head for Malang, stopping along the way for lunch. Just east of the city, in the village of Jago, you will find Jajaghu Temple. It was completed at the beginning of the 14th century and embraces elements of Hinduism and Buddhism. The temple is said to contain the ashes of the fourth king of the Singosari kingdom.
After visiting the temple, you will check into the Hotel Tugu Malang for the evening and enjoy dinner there.
TAG 3
Following breakfast at the hotel, you will visit Jodipan Village, which until 2016 was a slum so horrific that the local government considered re-locating the entire population to a more humane place. The situation inspired a group of local university students to give Jodipan a new and improved look by painting the village. Three tons of paint were donated and local artists, village residents and even troops from the Indonesian Air Force soon began transforming Jodipan.
Now nicknamed Kampung Warna-Warni, which translates to “colorful hometown,” the village is divided into two parts, separated by the Brantas River. While initially only the houses along the south bank were painted, it wasn’t long before the houses on the other side of the river were painted, many of them in a 3D look.
Today, a pedestrian bridge connects the two sections of Jodipan. It features brightly colored walls and illustrations of Javanese cultural images such as shadow puppets and characters from animated Hollywood movies. The improved look of Jodipan attracted tourists, the economy started to grow and the residents felt a sense of hope and optimism for the first time in years.
The head of the village, known as the Rukun Warga, will provide you with deeper insights about the village’s transformation while you enjoy tea or coffee in a café. In time, you will meander through Jodipan’s narrow winding streets to a studio for artists that worked on the transformation. They will show you how to create artwork with a Javanese flair.
After visiting, you will drive to Tanjung Perak Cruise Terminal in Surabaya and board your cruise ship.

OVERLAND - JAVA: AN ENCHANTING JOURNEY CODE: BEOL60
Explore landmarks ranging from royal palaces to traditional villages in Bali and a historical hotel in East Java that reflect Indonesia’s compelling past and see much of the countryside while riding in a vintage VW convertible.
Hinweis: Guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.
Also, there are numerous steps at several locations on this program, therefore, it is not recommended for guests who rely on the use of wheelchair or who cannot manage steps.
Tag 1: 10. April 2025
After disembarking in Benoa, Bali, you will collect your baggage and proceed through customs, after which you will meet your English-speaking guide. A vintage Volkswagen convertible awaits you outside, which will make for a fun two-hour ride through the countryside to Amlapura, the regency seat of Karangasem District in East Bali. Each VW will carry two guests, the guide and the driver.
Upon arriving in Amlapura, you will pause for refreshments at the restaurant Bali Asli, which offers scenic views of rice paddies and majestic Mt. Agung. You will next visit Puri Agung, one of the residences of the royal family of Karangasem. An exclusive behind-the-scenes of the palace will present a candid look at royal life years ago.
You will then visit the former royal palace Tirta Gangga, a retreat known for its bathing pools, fountains, gardens and ornate statuary. The palace was built in 1946 during the reign of the late raja of Karangasem, Anak Agung Anglurah Ketut Karangasem. Not even 20 years later, it was almost entirely destroyed when Mount Agung erupted. Now renovated, the water palace is once again an extraordinary setting.
Continuing on, you will travel along scenic country lanes to Dukuh Village. There you will browse a museum dedicated to lontar, which are palm-leaf manuscripts inscribed in Sanskrit with spiritual mantras, historical events and religious lore of ancient Balinese traditions. These manuscripts are still used today to provide wisdom and resolutions. You will watch Sanskrit being written and try it yourself if you wish. You will receive a lontar to take home. Its duplicate will be kept in the museum to be reunited with your lontar if you ever visit again.
Back at the Bali Asli restaurant, you will enjoy a family-style meal known as megibung, which Is meant to be shared.
After a leisurely drive in your VW to Ubud, you will check into the Ubud Village Resort, where you will enjoy dinner and spend the evening.
Tag 2: 11. April 2025
After breakfast at the hotel and check-out, you will transfer to Subak Guliang, a traditional farming village in the island’s interior.
While walking through the village, you can meet and interact with the residents and see how families live and work together on a day-to-day basis.
Continuing on to Nusa Dua, you will check into the Laguna hotel for dinner and to spend the evening.
Tag 3: 12. April 2025
Following breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will transfer to Denpasar Airport for a domestic flight to Surabaya in East Java. Upon landing, you will travel to the Hotel Majapahit for lunch and a heritage tour that will describe the hotel’s illustrious history.
Opened in 1911, the hotel soon gained a reputation for luxury and accommodated European royalty and celebrities such as Charlie Chaplin and author Joseph Conrad. During World War II, the Japanese occupied the hotel and established their headquarters in East Java there.
Following the war, the hotel was renamed the Merdeka, meaning “independence.” Since then, the hotel has been renamed and renovated numerous times. As you will discover, the story of its early history and renaissance is fascinating.
Following the hotel tour, you will transfer to the port of Surabaya and re-embark the cruise ship.

OVERLAND - JAVA'S HISTORIC HEARTLAND - WC 2024 CODE: BEOL35
Become immersed in Javanese history and culture by visiting Hindu and Buddhist temples, watching artisans forge kris daggers, exploring the Sultan’s Palace and strolling Yogyakarta’s vibrant, somewhat offbeat shopping district.
Hinweis: Any guests travelling with Portable Oxygen Concentrators (POC) or CPAP breathing machines should read further below for airline stipulations with regards to bringing this equipment on tour.
TAG 1
After disembarking the ship in Benoa, you will transfer to the airport in Denpasar and fly to the city of Yogyakarta in Java. Upon landing at the Yogyakarta International Airport, you will proceed to the Kali Opak restaurant for lunch, after which you will visit the 9th-century Hindu temple compound of Prambanan.
This impressive collection of temples is dedicated to the Trimurti, a concept of Hinduism in which Brahma is the Creator, Vishnu is the Preserver and Shiva is the Destroyer. They are often referred to as the Great Trinity or Hindu Triad. Easily recognized by its towering and pointed architectural design, the UNESCO World Heritage site of Prambanan is Java’s largest Hindu temple complex.
Later in the afternoon, you will transfer to the Hotel Tentrem for check-in and then dinner. The remainder of the evening is yours to spend as you please. The hotel is located in the heart of the city, an easy stroll from the vibrant district of Malioboro.
TAG 2
Setting out before sunrise, you will drive to the stunning temple complex at Borobudur, the largest single Buddhist monument in the world. This UNESCO World Heritage site consists of six square terraces topped by three circular ones. Two million stone blocks were used to build the temple and with an estimated 2.500 relief panels and more than 500 Buddha statues, it is exquisite beyond comparison.
If you wish to watch the sunrise from the temple’s highest point, you must climb more than 80 steps. However, many easier-to-access areas also offer wonderful perspectives. After watching the sunrise at the spectacular Buddhist monument and then exploring it further, you will travel to the nearby Manohara resort for breakfast.
Continuing on, you will watch the traditional art of kris-making, a skill that UNESCO recognized as a Masterpiece of Intangible Heritage of Humanity. A kris is an asymmetrical dagger with distinctive blade-patterning from its alternating laminations of iron. It can take a month to forge a single piece.
Krises have been produced throughout Indonesia for centuries, but nowhere is the kris so embedded in the culture as in Central Java. Krises are used for display, as talismans, weapons, sanctified heirlooms, accessories for ceremonial dress, indicators of social status and symbols of heroism. Kris-makers do more than forge the weapon, they perform rituals said to infuse the blade with mystical powers. As such, kris are considered to be vessels of spirits, both good and evil.
Following to your visit to the kris-maker, you will enjoy a traditional lunch before returning to the hotel to freshen up and relax. In time, you will begin an exploration of Yogyakarta that presents a side of the city best known to locals. A longtime resident will accompany you on the tour, which begins with a stroll along Jalan Malioboro, a shopping area with stores open 24 hours a day offering everything from works of art to one-of-a-kind curiosities. Your local expert will provide deeper insights into the culture and assist you with shopping, if you wish.
Jalan Malioboro is known for its unconventional approach to life, and chances are you will see street performers as a warm-up to watching a flamboyant cabaret show. In keeping with the theme of being outrageous, you will dine at a restaurant that one of the city’s most famous female impersonators owns. A billboard of this beloved local TV star is displayed at the entrance to the restaurant, which is known for its fabulous Javanese and European cuisine.
One last unusual experience awaits you at a square near the palace, which each evening transforms into a weird, loud and chaotic scene of revelry. Enjoy the colorful spectacle of flashy pedal cars and raucous music before returning to the hotel for the evening.
TAG 3
Following breakfast at the hotel, you will tour the Sultan’s Palace, which is also known as the Kraton. The innermost group of buildings where the sultan resides were built in 1755. As you meander through the palace, be sure to note the ornate reception halls as well as the large open-air pavilion that was erected so that the sovereign could listen to private performances of traditional gamelan ensemble music.
Other noteworthy features include a museum-like room containing the desk at which one of the sultans planned the overthrow of the Dutch colonialists, and the ornate ‘his’ and ‘hers’ entrances decorated with male and female dragons.
Within the grounds of the Kraton, you will also find the Taman Sari, often referred to by its Dutch name of Waterkasteel, which means Water Castle. It was designed in the mid-18th century as a royal pleasure park for the first Sultanate of Yogyakarta and his entourage. It is said that the sultan would sit in the tower and watch the goings-on in the bathing complex while being entertained by his wives.
Next you will visit Kota Gede, a district famous for silver crafting. At a workshop there, you will watch a demonstration of this ancient skill before exploring more craft showrooms in the backstreets of this historic neighbourhood.
Your final visit will be to the Taru Martani cigar factory. Although Java isn’t particularly known for cigars, the factory has been operating since 1918 and produces more than a dozen types of cigars. While there, you will learn much about the process, from drying the tobacco leaves through to rolling and preparing them for export.
Afterwards, you will return to the hotel for lunch and check-out before traveling to Tanjung Emas Harbor in Semarang to board your cruise ship.

After returning to the hotel, you will spend the night there.
DAY 3 – 11. April 2025
After breakfast at the hotel and check out, you will drive to Jogja. You will first visit the Sultan Palace, also known as Yogyakarta Palace, a Javanese cultural and political center. Construction started in 1755 on a site between two rivers and the palace was finished just a year later. The palace buildings feature traditional Javanese architecture, much of it decorated with nature motifs.
Continuing on, you will browse Taman Sari, the garden where the former Sultan of Yogyakarta came to rest and meditate. Of the few remaining buildings, the castle-like bathing complex may be the most fascinating.
Following lunch at Sekar Kedhaton restaurant, you will drive to the city of Kota Gede, where you will visit batik factories and watch silversmiths craft their wares. Time will be allotted for shopping.
You will then take the Sancaka train from the Tugu station to Surabaya, riding in executive class. Upon arrival, you will check into the Majapahit Hotel for the evening.
DAY 4 – 12. April 2025
Following breakfast at hotel and check out, you will enjoy an introductory tour of Surabaya, driving past Chinatown, the Old Quarter, the iconic Jembatan Merah red bridge and the Kampung Arab quarter.
Lunch at the Layar seafood restaurant follows, after which you will transfer to the port of Surabaya and rejoin the ship.
